Known now only as Knight of the Undead Asylum, he appears there and rescues the Chosen Undead from imprisonment by dropping a corpse with the Dungeon Cell Key into the cell. He is later found dying, where he imparts to the Chosen Undead the Estus Flask and the Undead Asylum East Key. In the room he is found in, there is a hole in the ceiling, with no other way in or out of the room, which leads to the conclusion that he was likely fighting the Asylum Demon on the roof and was defeated.
Oscar wears the Elite Knight set, which is later found discarded in Darkroot Garden. It states that the wearer might be from Astora and that "although he was loath to give up on his Undead mission, he perished at the Undead Asylum, and went hollow". He also wields Astora's Straight Sword and the Crest Shield, both imply that their owner was a "high-ranked knight of Astora". His face data is the same as that of Undead Prince Ricard and Paladin Leeroy, and is the Astora Noble default, strengthening the connection.
When found, Oscar offers all he has to the Player so that they may take up his quest. He gifts you the Estus Flask, one of the most important items in the game, knowing that he is Hollowing and will no longer need it. While one may decline, he offers to tell you the legend passed down in his family which has brought him here: "Thou who art Undead, art chosen… In thine exodus from the Undead Asylum, maketh pilgrimage to the land of Ancient Lords… When thou ringeth the Bell of Awakening, the fate of the Undead thou shalt know." It is likely then that he came to the Asylum in order to find this Chosen Undead, or perhaps even become the hero himself. Now, however, this quest has ended in failure, and he passes the torch to you in hopes that you will succeed where he could not.
If the Player returns to the Undead Asylum after their initial time there, Oscar can be found in the cell where he died, now Hollowed and hostile.
