Legendary Big M

The Hands of God fist weapon mentions there was once a strong man who killed dragons with his bare fists. His God-like fists earned him the nickname "Legendary Big M." In the Flamelurker's chamber there is a corpse which carries two Hands of God, which reference Big M. It is unclear whether Big M was a real figure who existed in the land's past, or simply a legend told by the residents of Stonefang to explain the numerous Dragon bones they excavated in the area. Regardless, he is worshipped as a hero by the rough and tumble men who work the mines, taking pride in their own ability to brawl as he once was said to.

Theories

The Flamelurker is Big M

Given his fighting style, and his appearance resembling a muscular humanoid, some believe that Big M became what we now know as the Flamelurker. Two Hands of God weapons can be found close to his arena in 2-2, furthering this connection. As Big M was said to have been so powerful as to defeat dragons with his bare hand, it would make sense that the old Burrowers would invoke him to protect them from the fearsome Dragon God, whose tomb lies just beyond. The human sized sarcophagus behind the fog wall that the Flamelurker leaps from in his introductory cutscene could be intended to represent his final resting place. His Japanese name (炎に潜むもの) translates to "One Who Lurks in Flame", as well as his internal code name (炎怪人) or "Mystery Flame Man" also imply a more human origin for him, perhaps meant to be seen as a spirit that lives on in the fires of his shrine protecting the residents of the area.

As both Ed and Boldwin carry Hands of God as their weapon of choice, some believe them to be the descendants of Big M himself.
