Blue Sentinels Covenant

The Blue Sentinels are a defensive Covenant formed to protect members of the Way of Blue Covenant. You unlock the Blue Sentinels by speaking with Horace once you reach the Road of Sacrifices.

If you choose to take up their cause, you will be summoned automatically into a Way of Blue member’s game if a hostile player is attacking them. Defeating hostile Red Phantoms earns you the Proof of a Concord Kept, which can be turned in later in the game at the Darkmoon Covenant leader for rewards.

Why They Exist

Though they seem to serve a similar cause to the Way of Blue convenant, there may be a reason for their separation. Gwyndolin started the Blades of the Darkmoon to hunt and punish the guilty. Then he probably realized that he could no longer operate just in the shadows and needed a covenant that could be be shown in major cities and the like, so he could expand his influence. Therefore he changed the covenant to "Blue Sentinels", a "benevolent" order that protects the innocent by defending them from sinners.

The Blue Sentinels have two roles: to invade the world of sinners and kill them (their main duty) and defend the people and kill invaders before they can commit the sin (their public duty). After some time, Gwyndolin separated the covenant into Blue Sentinels, who would continue protecting the member of the Way of the Blue, and the Blades of the Darkmoon, who would hunt down the sinners. He probably did this to keep new members of the Blue Sentinels from discovering the truth.

However, this changed after Gwyndolin was captured and sent to Aldrich and Yorshka took over. Yorshka is very naive and by the description of the Darkmoon Blade miracle we know she wasn't aware of the Blade's duty to hunt the guilty. The miracles states "Miracles of the Darkmoon are tales of revenge, but Captain Yorshka recites only for the sake of remembering her brother, with out knowledge of its meaning." So, Yorshka only knew about the Blue Sentinels's duty to protect the people, and when she became the leader of both covenants, she only commanded them to protect the members of the Way of the Blue.

Blue Sentinels (Item)

When a member of the Way of Blue is threatened by a dark spirit, the Blue Sentinels, in compliance with an ancient accord, assume the form of blue spirits, and help to root out the invader.

The knights called the Blades of the Darkmoon punish the guilt-soaked offenders of the Gods and take this as proof of their conquest.
The earless corpses of the guilty will be left behind as a warning to others, inspiring both fear and respect for the Gods. Such is the eternal mandate of the Dark Sun.

Darkmoon Ring
Ring of the moon deity Gwyndolin, youngest son of Gwyn, the First Lord.
Gwyndolin, also known as the Dark Sun, commands the Darkmoon Knights, and bestows this ring upon the best of them.

Darkmoon Blade
Miracle of those who devoted themselves to the Darkmoon covenant.
Miracles of the Darkmoon are tales of revenge, but Captain Yorshka recites only for the sake of remembering her brother, without knowledge of its meaning.
Perhaps this is better, as revenge is better left to the Blades.
