Anri of Astora

Anri is a knight from the land of Astora. Anri is initially found at the first Road of Sacrifices bonfire. Anri is accompanied by Horace, an alleged member of the Blue Sentinels Covenant.

Anri always appears to others as the opposite sex (if you are a female, Anri will appear male, and vice versa).

Anri is an Unkindled who is searching for the Lords of Cinder, but his/her main focus is defeating Aldrich, Devourer of Gods.

Anri may eventually be found dead in the Darkmoon Tomb.

Theories

How Anri and Horace were Separated

Anri mentions a trap, yet there is no trap that we are able to get stuck in which could seperate the two to the point that neither can find the other. That's because it's broken by the time we get there. If you travel to the Catacombs of Carthus bonfire and turn around, you will see a gate with a broken and completely non-interactive switch on the other side of it. The area should be familar, since it is where the first skeleton ball crashes. My theory is that as anri and horace were walking down the stairs, they were surprised by the skeleton ball. Horace, with his high equipment load weighing him down, would be forced to wait on the stairs for the ball to roll past, while anri could sprint to the platform and see the bonfire.

Running for the bonfire, anri triggered the gate to come down by entering that little hallway, protecting themselves from the ball but also cutting themselves off from that side of the catacombs due to the lack of switch on the bonfire side. Horace, again weighed down by his armor, is unable to reach the gate before the ball crashes into it, which must have subsequently caused stonework to fall onto the switch, thus breaking it and rendering the gate immovable. Seperated thus, it would be far too easy for them to miss each other when attempting to reunite, as there are multiple drop points into the lower level and the way back is not immediately obvious, along with multiple enemies to add to the confusion (especially if anri accidently fell into the wheel skeleton slug party).

Anri, attempting to find Horace, eventually doubles back to before the skeleton ball, which is where we meet them for the first time in the catacombs. Horace, attempting to find Anri, tries to cross the bridge, is mobbed by the skeletons and subsequently knocked off the bridge into the pit. He cant leave the pit without the ballistae gunning him down (His high equipment load making him unable to outrun or dodge it's bolts) and the darkness of it likely reminds him of Aldrich, so he eventually hollows.

With their experience with this area's traps, Anri ignores the obvious bridge and finds an alternate route, which is why we find them on that ledge overlooking it.

"I am Anri of Astora. Unkindled, like you.
This is Horace. A friend and traveling companion.
Beyond the flooded woods lies Farron Keep, home of the Undead Legion.
Further yet is the Cathedral of the Deep. We seek the cathedral, home of the grim Aldrich."

Dialogue at Firelink Shrine after defeating Deacons of the Deep
"Oh. And we meet again. We spoke before on the road of sacrifices. Anri of Astora.
I am well pleased to see you safe. We reached the Cathedral of the Deep, but Aldrich's coffin was empty.
The man-eater must have left for his true home. The little doll in the empty coffin told me.
Aldrich is said to hail from Irithyll in the Boreal Valley, an ancient fabled city…"

"A pilgrim told me that the city lies beyond Farron Keep. And so becomes our destination…"

Dialogue when first talking in the Catacombs of Carthus
"Oh, hello, how very fortunate. Have you seen my companion, Horace?
To my shame, I was snared by a trap, and we've become separated. I've not been able to find him since."

"Yes, I see. Horace is a valiant knight. He can look after himself, no question.
He's probably searching for me riht now, with twice the resolve.
If you happen upon him, please tell him that I remain in the catacombs and will lay prism stones to guide him, as always.
Please send him my word. I beg of you. May the flames guide your way."

"Ah, hello, we meet again. Have you seen Horace anywhere?"

"Oh, yes, I see. I've searched high and low, with no luck. Perhaps he's left the catacombs.
Oh, Horace, where have you run off to? Have you abandoned me? No, what a horrible thought…"

[After discovering Horace you have the option to tell them
"Oh, goodness me. To think there'd be a lake so deep within these catacombs. What a relief.
I knew that Horace was alive, and wouldn't stray far. Thank you, we are both in your debt.
This hardly expresses my gratitude, but it'll have to do for now. Please take it. And may the flames guide your way. "

Anri's Straight Sword
Sword precious to Anri, another Unkindled. The dullest type of blade found in the ruined land of Astora.
Only, it was once the sword of an earnest noble figure, and its attacks are boosted by that elusive, essential property unique to humans: luck.

This ring captured the foul spirit of an evil eye, a creature that ravaged Astora.
The horrid spirit nearly destroyed Astora, but was eventually defeated by "the sword of one most noble".
